Iran threatens to attack US destroyer near Strait of Hormuz ‘within 30 minutes’: report
A U.S. Navy destroyer headed towards the Strait of Hormuz was issued an imminent threat by Iran on Saturday amid the fragile two-week ceasefire tentatively agreed to between Washington and Tehran, the Hindustan Times reported.
“Any US military vessel crossing the Hormuz Strait will be attacked within 30 minutes,” reads a warning directed at the U.S. Navy destroyer, according to the Hindustan Times and other foreign media outlets.
Axios reporter Barak Ravid claimed on Saturday that U.S. warships had “crossed” the Strait of Hormuz earlier that morning without issue, citing an unnamed “senior U.S. official,” the “first time U.S. warships have crossed the Strait of Hormuz since the war began.” Later, Ravid claimed – again, citing an unnamed senior U.S. official – that the United States had “not received any threat from Iran to attack the ships.”
West Asia News Agency, an Iran-based news outlet, reported Saturday that Iran’s warning was forwarded to a “Pakistani mediator,” with a U.S. delegation including Vice President JD Vance, special envoy Steve Witkoff and President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner currently in Islamabad, Pakistan to meet with Iranian officials to negotiate a potential end to the conflict.
“If the movement of the ship continues, it will be targeted within 30 minutes, and the Iran-U.S. negotiations will also be damaged,” reads the statement from Iran, per the West Asia News Agency.
