BREAKING: Unknown Drone Intercepted at Vice President Jane Ansah’s Residence in Lilongwe
Authorities at the Office of First Vice President Justice Jane Ansah have confirmed that security personnel last night intercepted a drone that was flying over her official residence in Lilongwe.
According to the Vice President’s office spokesperson, Richard Mveriwa, the incident led to the apprehension of the individual believed to have been operating the device, who has since been handed over to the Malawi Police Service.
“The motive behind flying this drone is not yet known, but I should mention that the person who was controlling this drone has been apprehended by the security personnel,” said Mveriwa.
He added that the matter is now in the hands of police, who are expected to determine both the circumstances and intent behind the incident.
“You can check with the National Police as to where this person has been kept, as well as the motive behind flying this drone.
” As you are well aware, this is a protected area and drones are not allowed. That’s why they captured this drone as well as apprehended the person who was controlling it,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Malawi Police Service has not yet issued an official statement on the matter.
Police spokesperson Lael Chimtembo could not be reached for comment, while his deputy, Alfred Chimthere, was also not available on phone at the time of publication.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the identity of the detained individual or the purpose of the drone activity.
