Spruce Kings Drop Game 5 to Rivermen
The Langley Rivermen have pushed the Prince George Spruce Kings to the brink of elimination with a 5-2 victory on Friday night at Kopar Memorial Arena.
Prince George were the first to score when Cooper Faughnan put a goal home on a backhand pass from Tai Ushio as Marcus Lougheed picked up the second assist.
The Rivermen would respond with the next five goals, as Dmitrii Nazarov and AJ Valenti scored 1:46 apart from almost identical spots for the 2-1 lead.
Langley would score twice in the middle frame as well, as Nazarov picked up his second of the night after a tough pinch at the red line and he tucked it over the line off a rush chance.
Then, Cale Colwell would be the receipient of a glorious shorthanded chance, sitting in the slot after the Spruce Kings messed up a change then compounded the issue with a missed pass. Colwell waited in the slot for Darius Bachler to find him to make it 4-1.
Prince George pulled Colin Reay for the extra attacker early, and Connor Jalbert scored into the open net.
Faughnan would score his second of the night on the power play in the final minute.
Game 6 goes Sunday at 5:00 pm from the George Preston Rec Centre in Langley. Game 7 if necessary, will be in Prince George on Tuesday at 7 PM.
