Clay Holmes Optimistic About Making Next Start After Leaving with Hamstring Tightness

After the club’s 1-0 loss to the Athletics, manager Carlos Mendoza told reporters that the hope is Clay Holmes won’t have to miss any time after being pulled in the sixth inning of his start with hamstring tightness, but that they’re planning on giving him 24 hours to see what occurs overnight and how he progresses.
Additionally, Holmes stated that he thinks the injury is, “nothing major,” and that he’s, “pretty optimistic,” about his chances of making his next start, though it largely depends on where he stands, and how he feels, on Saturday.

After giving up a one-out single in the top of the sixth inning during his start on Friday, Mets assistant athletic trainer Bryan Baca and manager Carlos Mendoza came out to the mound to talk with starting pitcher Clay Holmes.
Holmes ended up leaving the game at that point, with Tobias Myers coming in to relieve him with the Athletics up 1-0. The Mets later announced that Holmes was pulled with hamstring tightness.
Holmes threw 81 pitches (48 strikes) against the Athletics, giving up one earned run on five hits, walked three, and struck out three through 5 1/3.
Over the course of the season so far, Holmes is 2-0 with a 1.50 ERA. He has thrown 18 innings, giving up just three earned runs on 12 hits and one run while walking eight batters and striking out 12.
It’s been a rough week or so on the injury trail for the Mets, as they lost Juan Soto to a calf injury on April 3 while Jorge Polanco has been dealing with Achilles bursitis. The good news, though, is that president of baseball operations David Stearns told reporters that Soto is progressing as expected, while an MRI showed no structural damage to Polanco’s Achilles.
