‘Breaking Bad’ Stars Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul Partner with Legendary Distiller to Create Their First Tequila
On the hit TV show Breaking Bad, Aaron Paul and Bryan Cranston were famously business partners. The two actors continued that relationship off screen to create Dos Hombres Mezcal in the summer of 2019.
It was a bold move considering that at the time most celebrities had started vodka and tequila brands, but the duo forged ahead and gained respect for their artisanal line of mezcal.

Last night on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Cranston who is on a media tour for the reboot of Malcolm in the Middle, announced that Dos Hombres was expanding its line with a blanco ($40) and a reposado ($50) tequila, which were aged in barrels that previously held Four Roses Bourbon. Both expressions will be available starting May 1 in select retailers. Next year the brand will expand the line to include an añejo tequila.
“Following a fun and expansive tasting process, we landed on a tequila that is smooth, approachable and beautifully balanced,” said Paul in a prepared statement. “It captures the spirit, energy and experience we want people to feel with every pour.”

While many celebrities bottle low-quality tequila, Paul and Cranston are working with one of the best distilleries in Mexicao, Tequilera Tap in Amatitán, Jalisco. It is run by veteran distiller Julio Cova. “Tequila is the natural next step for Dos Hombres and emphasizes our passion and appreciation for agave spirits,” said Cranston in a prepared statement. “We did a great deal of research, visited multiple sites and fell in love with the people, products and craftsmanship at Tequilera Tap Distillery.”
The same distillery also makes Cazcanes, which is Men's Journal'sfavorite craft tequila brand, as well as a number of other high quality brands, including Matthew and Camila McConaughey's Pantalones Tequila.
The launch of the Dos Hombres tequilas also coincides with a redesign of the brand’s packaging for its full portfolio of mezcals.
Dos Hombres Tequila Tasting Notes
The blanco, according to the brand, has notes of black pepper and citrus on the palate. While the reposado picks up vanilla and baking spice flavors from the American oak barrel that previously held bourbon.
