Tottenham fans think they know worrying reason behind injury crisis in Real Madrid comparison

Tottenham Hotspur supporters have begun to question whether a strange factor could be behind the club’s ongoing injury problems.

Tottenham Hotspur looked to rectify their injury problems by making changes to their medical staff, but that has done little to improve matters at Hotspur Way.

During Ange Postecoglou’s tenure, Spurs battled an injury crisis that ultimately derailed their domestic campaign, as Tottenham finished in 17th place.

Once more this season, the Lilywhites are embroiled in a relegation scrap and, while injuries are not entirely to blame, they have certainly played a role in the north London club’s decline.

With the Premier League run-in approaching, Tottenham will have hoped to have more of their injured players available at this stage of the season, with nine Spurs stars currently a doubt for the clash against Sunderland.

Tottenham fans question Mohammed Kudus injury as Spurs pitch is blamed

That looked to be the case, with Mohammed Kudus nearing a return, having returned to training earlier this week.

However, Kudus has suffered another setback and is now set to miss the rest of the season, with surgery expected. The right winger’s absence is a major blow, given his creative influence on Spurs’ attack.

Tottenham fans have now started to share their views on why the club continues to suffer injuries throughout the season, with the retractable pitch coming under scrutiny.

One supporter raised concerns about the playing surface, suggesting: “I’ve said to a few of the guys on here, isn’t it about time we looked at that retractable pitch it’s causing a lot of injuries so as Real Madrid”

A second fan echoed a similar sentiment, pointing not only to medical factors but also the pitch itself: “Medical but perhaps also out playing/training surface. Look at Real Madrid’s injury list and they have the same setup we do”

Another supporter appeared convinced that the issue lies with the stadium infrastructure, stating: “I’ve fully come round to the retractable pitch being the biggest cause of our injuries”

However, not everyone agreed with that line of thinking, as one fan shifted the focus towards the club’s medical department: “You do have to start wondering if the retractable pitch isn’t a primary cause of injuries, but it CANNOT explain why so many relapses occur. Players in rehab don’t train on that pitch, do they? That has to be attributed to the medical department.”

Meanwhile, another supporter pointed towards squad management and planning as the root cause: “It comes down to a lack of planning. Players are run into the ground because we fail to ever have a competitive squad”

Finally, one fan argued that the lack of depth in the squad is a key factor, rather than the medical staff: “It’s also no coincidence that we consistently don’t have quality backups, so therefore our starters are always overplayed and not fit. But sure, blame the doctors who have no control over anything”

Spurs injury crisis raises concerns over stadium and squad planning

Injuries are a significant part of modern football, but when more than 13 players are consistently sidelined across consecutive seasons, questions have to be asked. Blaming the retractable pitch without clear evidence may be a bit of a stretch, but Tottenham do need to get to the root of the issue.

Real Madrid, who also play on a similar retractable surface, often deal with injury problems of their own, but Spurs can learn from Los Blancos’ approach to squad-building.

Madrid are not shy to splash the cash when building their squad, ensuring quality depth in every area of the pitch, something Tottenham has failed to do.

If the pitch is a contributing factor – and that is a big IF – Spurs may be forced into a difficult decision, especially given the stadium’s importance as a revenue stream.

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is not just home to Premier League football, but also hosts NFL games and concerts, bringing in millions.
