Minister Chipungu rallies Africa on New Urban Agenda
Minister of Lands and Urban Development Chimwemwe Chipungu has called on African countries to step up engagement in shaping the New Urban Agenda ahead of its upcoming review.
Speaking during a breakfast meeting on the sidelines of the Second Africa Urban Forum in Nairobi, Chipungu briefed fellow ministers on progress made in preparations for the high-level meeting, which Malawi is co-facilitating alongside Poland.
He stressed the need for African countries to take an active role in the consultative process to ensure the continent’s priorities are clearly reflected.
Chipungu also highlighted the July review meeting in New York, urging member states to provide coordinated input that will lead to practical and action-oriented outcomes.
He further encouraged ministers to take part in upcoming New Urban Agenda engagements, including meetings linked to UN-Habitat sessions in Nairobi and the World Urban Forum in Baku.
The Africa Urban Forum has brought together policymakers and stakeholders to discuss the future of urban development across the continent.
