Restaurant review: Simple but well executed all day dining spot

At some point, without really noticing when it happened, meeting friends stops being about late nights and turns into something far more civilised. These days, it is more likely to be “let’s meet for brunch” than anything resembling a Saturday night out. That was exactly the case this time. A long-overdue catch-up, a Saturday morning, and the simple task of finding somewhere to sit, eat and talk for a few hours.

When one of our friends suggested a place called Museum, I will admit there was a brief moment of confusion. It did not quite sound like the brunch setting we had in mind. The name leans more towards something educational than edible. This was not about artefacts or exhibitions. This was Museum All Day Bar, and it looked like exactly the kind of place we were after. A relatively small building, modern but with a slightly understated charm, the kind of place that feels intentionally low-key.

Inside, the space feels clean, stylish and well thought out. It manages to strike a balance between being a comfortable daytime spot and somewhere that could just as easily transition into a livelier evening venue. It was busy without being overwhelming.

The menu is an interesting one. At first glance, it looks extensive, with multiple sections covering brunch, sandwiches, burgers, pancakes, desserts and more. But within each section, the choices are quite focused. It is a clever approach. You are not overwhelmed with endless variations, but everything that is there sounds genuinely appealing.

One of my friends went for the Eggs Royale, which had been on my shortlist. I decided to let him have that, keep my eye on it, and try something different. In the end, I went for the Ultimate Indulgence sandwich. Pulled pork, caramelised onions, goat’s cheese, pickled cucumber and horseradish cream. It sounded like exactly the kind of hearty, slightly over-the-top combination I was in the mood for.

Elsewhere on the table, there were two orders of the Cereals Avocado Toast. Avocado, marinated mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, lime, coriander and poached egg. One of them had extra bacon added, which, at just one euro, felt like very good value.

Despite the steady flow of people, the food arrived fairly quickly. The staff were friendly and relaxed, attentive without hovering.

Coffee came first and did the job nicely. Not the kind you analyse too deeply, but more than good enough to start the day.

When the food landed, everything looked exactly as you would hope. My sandwich stood out straight away. The bread was soft, and the texture was spot on, and the filling worked exactly as it should. The richness of the pulled pork, the sweetness of the onions, the slight tang from the goat’s cheese and the sharpness of the pickled cucumber all balanced together. It was indulgent, but not heavy in a way that slows you down.

Around the table, there was a quiet appreciation of the poached eggs. The kind of detail that you notice straight away when it is done properly. A gentle cut, and the yolk flows exactly as it should. It sounds simple, but it is something that can easily go wrong. Here, it didn’t.

What also stood out was the overall feel of the place. It is not just a brunch spot. There is clearly more going on. It feels like somewhere you could return to at a completely different time of day and have a different experience altogether.

Another thing worth mentioning is their emphasis on sourcing ingredients locally. It is something that is easy to say, but when it is done properly, it makes a difference, and it is good to see it highlighted.

By the time we finished, the table had gone quiet in that way that only happens when everyone is full and content. The conversation picked back up, coffee cups were emptied, and there was no real rush to leave.

Museum turned out to be exactly what we needed, even if it was not what we initially expected. A place that feels relaxed but considered, simple but well executed. With cocktails on the menu and live performances advertised, it feels like the kind of spot that could offer a completely different experience after dark, and one that would be well worth exploring.
