Tottenham boost as summer target confirms its “time for me to move on”

Liverpool have confirmed that Andrew Robertson will leave the club at the end of the season.

The 32-year-old Scottish international defender has been an exceptional servant for the club since joining, and he has helped them win the Premier League twice and the UEFA Champions League. Robertson is undoubtedly one of the best left-backs in the club’s history, and he will go down as a club legend.

The defender will be a free agent in the summer, and Liverpool have decided to let him move on. It will be interesting to see where he ends up. The player has now confirmed that he had opportunities to leave the club in recent months, but he has decided to stay until the end of the season.

He said to LFCTV: “I think I feel better now that it’s out in the open. The hardest bit [in] the last certainly couple of weeks and months is some people that are close to me in the training ground don’t know and more importantly, the fans. The closer it gets, the more and more questions you start to get.

“I’ve always said that the fans are the most important people at this club and I just think now is the time to tell them what’s going on and that obviously this will be my last year.

“But the time to have the emotional farewell and tell the fans and the people connected to this club what they mean to me, that will come closer to the end. I don’t think I’m quite ready for that yet. It’s just to try to get it out there so I can now be open and honest with everyone.

“Look, I think it has been well-documented, especially over the last year or so, I’ve had opportunities to leave and I’ve not taken them because of how difficult it is to leave this club.

“And I wouldn’t change that for the world. But I know football moves on, I know teams move on and I think now is the time for me to move on and go wherever my next move is and wherever my career takes me.”

According to Andy Hunter from The Guardian, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing the player. It remains to be seen whether they can secure his signature on a free transfer.

They need to replace Ben Davies, and the Liverpool star could be an exceptional addition. Apart from being a quality player, he is a leader, and his winning experience would be an invaluable addition to the Tottenham dressing room.

The opportunity to continue in the Premier League will be exciting for the Scottish international. He is still good enough to compete at the highest level, and he will look to establish himself as an important player for Tottenham if the move goes through.
