Harry Maguire sends strong message to Man United hierarchy, fans will agree
Manchester United are expected to be active in this summer’s transfer window as they look to address the weaknesses in the squad.
United want to strengthen their midfield options and sign a new left-winger, with Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson and RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande being prime targets.
Centre-back Harry Maguire has emphasised the need for United to sign quality players this summer to build on recent progress.
He told the Sun: “We’re in a strong position. We’ve had a great few months under the manager. I feel like the squad is starting to look like something that is a strong squad.
“But this summer’s going to be big, really, really big. We need more players, we need better quality, we need players to come into the starting eleven.
“And then when everything comes together, we’ll see where it is at the start of the season.“We’ll have a good pre-season and be ready.”
Maguire also argued that United could compete for major titles next term with the right recruitment.
“I think next season you look at it and I think we’ve got to be in the bracket where if we get the recruitment right and everything’s positive from now to the end of the season, and we keep going on the curve there’s no ceiling to where we can reach,” Maguire added.
The 33-year-old’s comment reflects the new-found belief in the United squad.
United’s season was going pear-shaped until the appointment of interim manager Michael Carrick.
Carrick has restored belief, guiding the push for Champions League qualification, an achievement that looked unlikely under former manager Ruben Amorim.
Maguire has been a major part of the recent success, starting the last 10 Premier League games. His leadership and influence in both boxes have been crucial.
The England international signed a new one-year deal on Tuesday, reward for his consistency and hard work. Carrick will be relying on him as United aim to seal Champions League qualification.
Maguire will miss Monday’s home clash with rivals Leeds United following his red card in the 2-2 draw at Bournemouth.
