Maronite archbishop meets Erhurman ahead of Easter
Maronite Archbishop of Cyprus Selim Sfeir met Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhurman on Thursday, ahead of the forthcoming Easter weekend.
Sfeir was joined by Yiannakis Moussa, the Maronite Cypriot community’s non-voting representative in parliament, with Erhurman’s office saying that the meeting had seen “relations with the Maronite community and current issues” discussed by the parties.
Cyprus’ Maronite community has historically been centred in four villages – Asomatos, Ayia Marina, Karpasha, and Kormakitis – all of which are located in the north.
While Maronites are in full communion with the Catholic Church of Rome, they celebrate Easter on Orthodox Easter Sunday, which is this coming Sunday.
