Donald Trump warns the US is ‘loading up’ and ‘looking forward to its next conquest’
Donald Trump has issued a chilling warning that the US may already be eyeing up its ‘next conquest’ after Iran.
The fragile ceasefire between Iran and the US has entered its second day, but with accusations of breaches from both sides.
The Strait of Hormuz reopened briefly, which saw sky-high oil prices come down briefly, before Iran said it would block the route again in response to Israel’s ongoing attacks on Lebanon.
Trump added fuel to the volatile situation further by saying the US military will stay put around Iran until a ‘real agreement reached is fully complied with.’
In his typical fashion, the US president issued the threat in a ranting Truth Social post with capital letters in the mix.
He said: ‘All U.S. Ships, Aircraft, and Military Personnel, with additional Ammunition, Weaponry, and anything else that is appropriate and necessary for the lethal prosecution and destruction of an already substantially degraded Enemy, will remain in place in, and around, Iran, until such time as the REAL AGREEMENT reached is fully complied with.’
The US president said that if Iran does not obey this agreement, then attacks will start again, ‘bigger and better’ than before.
He demanded that Iran not have any nuclear weapons and that the Strait of Hormuz ‘will be open & safe.’
‘In the meantime, our great Military is Loading Up and Resting, looking forward, actually, to its next Conquest,’ the 79-year-old wrote on his page.
Iran has never had any nuclear weapons, but it is known to have carried out secret research into them, which has been considered in breach of its international pledges.
Today, Sir Keir Starmer told Gulf allies Iran must not ‘hold the Strait of Hormuz to ransom’ in a regional defence call during a visit to the United Arab Emirates.
The Prime Minister said the UK has been constant in its position, calling for de-escalation in the Iran conflict and that he wants to see the ceasefire become a lasting peace.
Meanwhile, Lebanon has come under deadly bombardment by Israel as the IDF targets pro-Iranian Hezbollah fighters.
Israel has argued that Lebanon is not included in the truce despite calls from world leaders to do so or risk destabilising the region further.
More than 250 people were killed by the Israeli strikes in Lebanon yesterday alone, according to the country’s civilian authorities.
UK’s Foreign Secretary, Yvette Cooper, said this morning that Lebanon must be part of the ceasefire or it could ‘destabilise the whole region.’
She told Times Radio: ‘One of the things I do feel very strongly about is we want to see Lebanon included in the ceasefire.
‘We want it extended to cover Lebanon, because otherwise that will destabilise the whole region, and also it’s just the right thing to do.
‘That escalation that we saw from Israel yesterday, I think, was deeply damaging and we want to see an end to hostilities in Lebanon.’
Iran’s deputy foreign minister said the country ‘sent a message’ to the US after closing the strait again in response to Israel’s Lebanon strikes.
Saeed Khatibzadeh labelled the airstrikes a ‘grave violation, intentional grave violation of the ceasefire.’
Negotiations for peace are set to start in Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad, on Saturday.
Iran’s delegation is expected to land in the city later today for ‘serious talks’ based on a 10-point plan put forward by the regime, the country’s ambassador to Pakistan said.
