I Swapped My Phone Camera for the Retro-Inspired Camp Snap — Here’s Why I’m Never Going Back

If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, SheKnows may receive an affiliate commission.

Whether it be the magical moments of everyday life, a milestone birthday, or a big family vacation, capturing memories has never been easier. With high-quality, pocket-sized cameras at our fingertips, we can snap photos, adjust filters, and share moments online with a few taps on our smartphones.

As much as I love the convenience of that digital shutter and flipping through my virtual camera roll immediately after taking a picture, snapping photos doesn’t feel as tangible as it used to be. And I end up spending more time experiencing life through a screen versus my own eyes — until I started taking my Camp Snap camera everywhere with me.

CAMP SNAP CAMERA REVIEW (2026)

Camp Snap Screen-Free Digital Camera

The Camp Snap camera is a screen-free digital camera, or what I like to call a “reusable disposable camera.” Much like a classic disposable camera, the shell is made from a lightweight plastic that makes it easy to toss in your purse, backpack, or carry-on and take out when you want to capture but also live in the moment.

Instead of film, it’s equipped with a simple digital camera with a built-in memory card and the ability to snap 500 vintage-style photos on a full charge. To review photos, all you have to do is plug it into a smartphone, computer, or tablet. That slight barrier to entry ensures you don’t fuss too much with getting the shot and get to experience a joy that is semi-reminiscent of getting film back after dropping it off at the local drugstore.

I originally got mine for a trip to Amsterdam last fall and am now so obsessed with it that it permanently lives in my purse (just like a disposable camera), capturing both the random moments at home and celebratory nights out with friends. What I like about the camera is that I end up spending less time on my phone. Since it doesn’t have a screen to distract me, I end up snapping a picture or two and then moving on with my life, only to revisit—and relive—it at a later time. Compared to my phone, this is a much more immersive experience. And I love the nostalgic disposable camera photography experience.

In addition to the classic Camp Snap Camera, you can get a customized version with your name or initials printed on the front of the camera body. The brand also has some fun partnerships, including a Grillos x Camp Snap Camera that is perfect for pickle lovers.

Camp Snap Camera Bag

Since I keep my phone in my purse, I bought the Camp Snap Camera Bag to keep my camera protected while traveling. The case fits both the classic Camp Snap Camera and the Camp Snap Pro model ($99) and has an adjustable strap, so you can wear it around your neck or crossbody for easier access.

Camp Snap Dual-Function Camera Wrist Strap & USB-C Data Cable

The camera comes with a cable to charge your camera and upload photos, but I found it tricky to keep track of it. Instead, I upgraded to this Dual-Function Camera Wrist Strap & USB-C Data Cable, which acts as a wrist strap but is actually a double-sided cable that you can easily remove to upload photos on your phone, tablet, or laptop computer.

Camp Snap Waterproof Case

If you have the classic Camp Snap Camera, the Waterproof Case is a fun add-on accessory. I don’t have this one yet but plan to buy it for upcoming summer vacations—because you’re never too old for silly underwater pictures with your besties.
