Trump repeats Hegseth's misleading information on Iran war: report
Officials said that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has boasted how the war in Iran has been successful for the United States and that President Donald Trump has repeated his false claims, according to a Washington Post report on Tuesday.
This misleading information has concerned insiders who have worried that these statements have contradicted the actual reality of the military operation. After the rescue of two stranded F-15 service members, it appeared that Hegseth had started to misinform both Trump and the public about the current status of the ongoing war.
"The chaotic but successful rescue mission has become the clearest indication yet that Hegseth’s repeated claims of air dominance come with serious caveats, and has reinforced concerns inside the Trump administration that his messaging about the war is overly optimistic and risks misinforming both the public and the president," The Post reported.
"Pete is not speaking truth to the president," an administration official, who spoke under the condition of anonymity, told the outlet. "As a result, the president is out there repeating misleading information."
Hegseth has claimed for weeks that Iran had a weakened military with 'no air defenses' and that the country could do 'nothing' about potential U.S. attacks; however, it was clear that wasn't the case. Trump during his White House press conference on Monday admitted that a shoulder-fired "heat-seeking missile" had taken the F-15 down deep inside Iran.
The White House and Pentagon have pushed back on any scrutiny of Hegseth's messaging on the war to the public.
