A trip to Disney Parks means days spent eating theme park snacks like churros and Mickey-shaped pretzels, riding iconic rides like Space Mountain, Indiana Jones, and Pirates of the Caribbean, waving to characters as they parade down Main Street, and, surprisingly, a lot of time spent on your phone.
Technology has certainly made aspects of Disneyland and Walt Disney World more enjoyable (here’s looking at you, mobile food orders). But seeing my phone usage after a Disney day is quite shocking, especially when I can remember a time when I wouldn’t even look at my phone until the car ride home. Since the parks no longer offer physical maps, the app conveniently shares which rides have the shortest line, and I habitually scroll social media or play a virtual game while waiting in lines, I find myself constantly pulling out my pocket computer throughout the day.
Enter: The analog bag. This social media trend is technically for downtime at home, but it’s also a great way to immerse yourself back into the magic at Disney Parks.

What Is An Analog Bag?
An analog bag is bag that you keep with you (usually near your couch) and curate with analog activities such as the book you’re currently reading, a pad of crossword puzzles, a needlepoint or knitting project, a journal, a deck of cards, and other activities that don’t require a screen or connection to the internet. You can fill the bag with whatever activities you enjoy, as long as they’re enjoyed offline, as the main goal is to reduce screen time and have a bag of readily available items to help you do so.
Carrying a bag of activities around Disney Parks all day might sound a bit extra, but you don’t have to stuff it—you don’t even have to use a separate bag. On days when you don’t want to bring a tote or backpack, just throw a few analog items in for good measure. And, when you think you’ll want some more options, a stroller has excellent storage (or, it might just be a locker day).
If you do want a designated bag for your analog activities, a tote bag is the way to go. The new Baggu x Disney Horizontal Zip Duck Bag ($48) or the Vera Bradley Little Mermaid Tote ($65) are great options. This Minnie Mouse Canvas Tote Bag ($35) from the Disney Store is also adorable (or you could go full send with the iconic Big Face Mickey Canvas Tote ($50). And, for something smaller, this Old Navy x Disney Small Tote Bag ($12) is so cute.
What to Pack in Your Analog Bag for Disney Parks
Disney analog bags look a bit different from what you’d stash away at home. Sure, you can still bring that crochet project or cross stitch kit—my friend and fellow writer slash Disney-lover, Jacqueline Weiss, even brings her needlepoint. “I love needlepointing at Disneyland, so I usually bring a small project and essentials that fit in my purse to stitch,” she explains, adding that the Disneyland Railroad, Monorail, and Mark Twain are the best places to stitch in the park. I’ve also brought my stitching to Disneyland and can confirm that crocheting while sipping an adult beverage at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel is the best way to take a breather.
In addition to needlework, you can also add Disney-themed trivia cards or matching games to help you get through long wait times. These are fun for all ages and a great alternative to Heads Up! and other popular digital games played while in line. Encouraging your kids—or even yourself—to connect with others through pin trading is also a fun way to interact with other guests. This Mouse Pin Display Keychain is a cute bag charm for your analog bag that acts as a mini pin display for trading. And, the whole family might also enjoy a scavenger hunt, as well.

The Innovative Designs Disney Stitch Crochet Craft Kit is a fun and on-theme crochet amigurumi project that you can enjoy in the car ride to Disney, while circling the park on Disneyland Railroad, or during your kids’ stroller naptime.

Camp Snap Screen-Free Digital Camera
If you buy anything from this list, make it the Camp Snap Screen-Free Digital Camera. I keep mine in my purse at all times and have taken it with me on several European vacations and Disneyland days. It’s essentially a reusable digital camera that allows you to capture memories throughout the day, keeping you immersed in your surroundings rather than what’s on your screen. I prefer waiting until I get home to upload the photos to my computer, but you can also plug the camera into your phone for immediate access.

Disney Mickey and Friends Deluxe Autograph Book
Finding your favorite Disney characters throughout the park is another fun way to immerse yourself in the magic. If you have small children with you, you can buy a Disney Mickey and Friends Deluxe Autograph Book on Amazon for $10, which is cheaper than what you’ll find at the parks. Add an extra layer to this activity by snapping a picture with each character on a Fujifilm Instax Camera and taping the photo next to their signature.

When I travel, I like to write about each day of my trip on a postcard in lieu of a journal. When I get home, I put the postcards in a keepsake box, so all of my travel memories live together.
