Freezing Weather Warning Announced for 22 States as Spring Takes a Turn
The spring holiday of Easter holiday just wrapped up, but starting on Tuesday, April 7, freezing cold temperatures are expected to make their way across the Midwest and Northeast, bringing unseasonably cold weather.
After kicking off April with warm and comfy weather across much of the U.S., temperatures are dipping, and fast, and now, cold weather is set to bring dangerously cold weather to the Midwest and Northeast through the week. Specifically, residents in Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Vermont and Wisconsin are expected to get hit with cold Canadian air, hard freezes and snow.
Freezing Weather Warnings and Hard Freezes Expected for the Midwest and Northeast
If you're hoping to get a head start on your gardening in the Midwest or Northeast, put a pause on that. A "widespread hard freeze" is expected in the area Tuesday night, April 7, into Wednesday, April 8, with "with daytime highs struggling to reach the 30s in the Midwest and Appalachians and remaining in the 40s to 50s farther east. A hard freeze may damage sensitive plants and early-season agriculture," the weather experts at AccuWeather said in a statement provided to Men's Journal.
They add that areas of Pennsylvania, northern New Jersey, New York and New England are also expected to get snow and flurries from one to five inches. In addition, parts of the Midwest, such as upper Michigan and Wisconsin, may see snow accumulations of one to three inches.
Even in areas that aren't seeing those freezing temperatures, the wind chill will make it seem colder than it is. "Gusty winds combined with cold air and snow will keep AccuWeather RealFeel Temperatures in the 30s and 40s," they state, " even where actual temperatures reach the 50s, increasing discomfort outdoors."
The Weather Channel adds in a report about the storm system, "Temperatures will end up 10-20 degrees below average by Tuesday with highs only in the 40s and 50s along the Interstate 95 corridor."
Warmer Temperatures Up Ahead of the Middle of April, With More Spring-Like Weather
The good news is that the cold weather won't last forever. According to the meteorologists at AccuWeather, "Another warmup is on the way to the Midwest and East starting this weekend, with highs expected to be well above the historical average."
Alex Sosnowski, AccuWeather senior meteorologist, says that this burst of cold weather "will be one of the briefest wintry events in recent months." During the second half of the week, temperatures are already forecast to "rebound quickly in the Midwest," and by Friday, April 10, the weather should be balmy again. So, don't worry, spring is still here.
