Palace Insiders Reveal Prince Louis Received ‘Unusual Reward’ From Grandpa King Charles at Easter Service
The Easter Bunny may have brought eggs, but Prince Louis’s holiday gift from his grandpa, King Charles III, was much nicer. The 7-year-old son of Prince William and Kate Middleton reportedly received an “unusual reward” from the king, and it shows how fond he is of the young royal.
On Sunday, the royal family — including Louis and his older siblings, Prince George, 12, and Princess Charlotte, 10 — walked from Windsor Castle to St. George’s Chapel in Windsor for the Easter service. At the church, King Charles and Queen Camilla met the family in a car up front. As the king approached his young grandson, he gave him an affectionate shoulder tap, which an insider says was very significant.
“It is a very unusual reward ritual from Charles, showing his softer side as a doting grandad,” body language expert Judi James told the Mirror about this rare display of affection. “There is a very sweet moment when Charles is walking past William’s children and he spontaneously, fondly and unusually (in public), stretches one hand out to pat one of them.”
Princess Charlotte was also on the receiving end of some familial love, as she was spotted holding hands with her mom when they left the Easter service, per Hello! According to People, she also received a playful poke from her grandfather, which she responded to with a smile. It seems the family was in good spirits at this special outing, which marks the first time since 2023 that Kate, William, and their kids have attended an Easter service.
This fun and joyful behavior is reportedly encouraged by Middleton. Parenting expert Sophie David told Hello! in July 2025, “The Princess of Wales shows us how important it is to nurture a child’s playful side, even in formal settings.”
“With Prince Louis, we often see her giving him the freedom to be cheeky, giggle, and explore the world around him,” she continued. “Kate’s warmth and gentle encouragement remind us that playfulness is at the heart of childhood, and it’s lovely to see Louis’ cheeky, happy side shine through wherever he goes.”
It’s clear that this light-hearted, playful attitude has spread to other members of the royal family as well, based on these sweet Easter Day gestures.
