Dakota Johnson’s Ex Chris Martin Is Reportedly Influencing Her Relationship With Role Model in One Major Way

Dakota Johnson has been linked with singer Role Model for months now, but it seems like they aren’t ready to make anything official — and this might be due to the influence of Johnson’s ex Chris Martin.
Role Model (whose real name is Tucker Pillsbury) and the Materialists star were spotted kissing on April 3, in photos published by Backgrid. On Monday, insiders told People that although the couple’s relationship is heating up, Johnson is wary of rushing into things after her 8-year-relationship with the Coldplay singer, which ended in June 2025.
“It’s definitely more than a fling, or just a flirt,” the source said. They added that while Johnson “does really like” the “Sally When the Wine Runs Out Singer,” she “is also taking things slow after her previous long-term relationship.”
People’s insider told the outlet that the couple are “very much on the same page, and it just feels easy. She thinks he’s cute and he treats her incredibly well.”
If they do decide to make things official, the Fifty Shades of Grey star’s mom, Melanie Griffith, seems to approve. DeuxMoi posted a video interviewing Griffith on Sunday, where she said, “I think he’s fabulous” about Role Model.
Johnson and Role Model first sparked relationship rumors in Dec. 2025, when TMZ posted photos of them cozying up at dinner with friends. At the time, sources told the outlet that they were displaying a lot of PDA during the night out.
Prior to this, Johnson was engaged to Martin, who was previously married to Gwyneth Paltrow and shares two adult children with her. After Johnson and Martin’s breakup in June 2025, insiders told The Sun, “They really tried to work through their issues but the age gap was often a problem and she’d expressed that she may want children in the future, whereas Chris is kind of done with that part of his life but they discussed it.”
The source added, “They made some beautiful memories as a family and it’ll be hard for both of them to move on after such a long relationship but they will do it.”
It seems like it hasn’t actually taken too long for either to move on, as Johnson is with Role Model and Martin has been linked to Joe Jonas’s ex-wife Sophie Turner. A source told Us Weekly in Nov. 2025 that the two “have gone out on a few dates” and that “they have a lot of chemistry.”
