Progress Continues on Key Hagg Lake Loop Trail Re-Route
Ten volunteers gathered at Hagg Lake on March 29 to continue work on a critical re-route of the Loop Trail between Turtle and Gandolf’s.
Rebuilding a Vital Trail Connection
The project focuses on restoring a key section of trail after a bridge was uprooted, forcing trail users onto roughly one mile of road to move between segments.
Crews continued shaping the new alignment, working toward a solution that will reconnect the trail system and improve the overall riding and hiking experience at Hagg Lake.
A Skilled Crew and Strong Support
The volunteer group brought a wide range of experience and trailbuilding knowledge, allowing the team to make steady progress on a complex re-route.
Support from Bellingham Gloves played a big role in the day’s success, with plenty of gloves provided to keep volunteers equipped and working efficiently.
The crew also benefited from on-the-ground support from Washington County Parks, including Senior Park Ranger Sean Little, helping ensure the work aligned with long-term trail management goals.
Why This Work Matters
Before the bridge was lost, it allowed users to stay on trail instead of traveling on the road. Completing this re-route will restore that experience, improve safety, and strengthen the overall quality of the Hagg Lake trail system.
With just ten volunteers, the team made meaningful progress on a project that will have a lasting impact.
Step by step, this re-route is bringing the trail system back together.
