Hairstory Review: Does a Cleansing & Conditioning Cream Actually Work on Curly Hair?

I have really curly hair. It’s thick, coarse, and always frizzy. Since I was little, I’ve heard all the comments on my hair from “it’s so beautiful,” to “why is your hair so weird?” from other kids. And as I‘ve grown up, I’ve learned to stop cringing at all the comments and embrace them. My hair journey hasn’t come with just others observing my hair, but it’s also led me to testing handfuls of products to create a regimen that nourishes my strands, a routine I rarely stray from.
My hair has changed over the years, from moving to a high-humidity climate to postpartum, and now I rely on only four products in my routine. Recently, I had the opportunity to test Hairstory’s new innovative launch, a cleansing and conditioning cream designed with the brand’s belief of “The world needs fewer, better things. It empowers its customers to do more with less, offering low-maintenance products that simplify our shower routines, without compromise.” Ahead, read my thoughts on the new haircare and see my results.
Hairstory just launched its New Wash, a first-of-its-kind cleansing cream created hand in hand with hairdressers that combines the benefits of shampoo and conditioner into a single seamless step. The formula removes dirt and product buildup from the scalp while conditioning strands, so hair is in its natural state and not stripped of essential oils and nutrients. The results are due to the formula, which features aloe vera leaf juice, jojoba seed oil, evening primrose oil, peppermint oil, and sunflower seed oil, to hydrate and improve scalp health.
The New Wash is available in multiple variations: The New Wash Original (for all hair types), The New Wash Rich (for thick, coarse, and curly hair), New Wash Deep Clean (for oily and fine hair), and The New Wash Fragrance Free. You can also snag refills of your formula and a massaging scalp brush that works the wash into your scalp and helps cleanse.
The Testing Process
In the past, cleansing and conditioning creams haven’t worked for my hair type, so I wasn’t sure what to expect with this option. Other options left my hair still feeling oily from my workouts and leftover product, and left strands feeling very weighed down, almost like wet noodles (my sister’s exact words). Since I’ve been scared off from these products, I was nervous to get in the shower and give it a shot.
Before getting in the shower, I noticed the brand’s packaging — a large bottle of product with an axcetotn thick disperser head that didn’t require 100 pumps to get the product out. I also noticed the aromatic scent, which wasn’t loaded with synthetic scents.
After washing, I didn’t add my usual hair oil, heat protectant, and frizz-eliminating products on purpose before giving myself a blowout. The results? Smooth hair that wasn’t frizzy at all. Hairstory’s formula was impressive and unexpected.

Final Verdict
The New Wash surpassed my expectations and changed my mind on cleansing and conditioning creams. Now, I’m debating ditching my trusted shampoo and conditioner duo that I’ve used for over five years, and this pick has a spot in my permanent routine. If you’re looking to upgrade your haircare routine this spring, head to Hairstory and try The New Wash for yourself. It not only saves time, but the results are worth it.
