Trump's civil rights chief attended wedding of 'Stop the Steal' organizer: report
President Donald Trump's assistant attorney general for civil rights, Harmeet Dhillon, attended the wedding ceremony of Caroline Wren, a prominent activist who helped organize the key January 6 rally affiliated with the "Stop the Steal" conspiracy theory movement.
According to liberal elections outlet Democracy Docket, "Photos posted to social media show Dhillon celebrating aboard a yacht alongside Wren during the Palm Beach wedding festivities — a gathering that brought together figures from Trump-aligned political circles. In one image, Dhillon poses arm-in-arm with Wren, who helped organize the Jan. 6, 2021 “Save America” rally that preceded the attack on the U.S. Capitol."
The "Save America" rally featured Trump, who directly encouraged the crowd to "fight like hell" or America would cease to exist. While this rally wasn't explicitly connected to the January 6 riot that stormed the U.S. Capitol, many individuals participated in both.
"Dhillon ... has become a central figure in Trump’s annihilation of federal civil rights enforcement — particularly around voting rights. Her appearance at a private celebration hosted by a Jan. 6 rally organizer underscores her continued ties to figures connected to efforts to overturn the 2020 election," noted the report. "Wren has not only remained active in Republican political circles but has also publicly supported Dhillon’s rise within the party. During the 2023 Republican National Committee chair race, Wren backed Dhillon’s bid and helped amplify her campaign among Trump-aligned activists and donors."
Dhillon, who more recently has engaged in personal attacks on social media with even some right-wing legal figures, was ultimately unsuccessful in the battle for RNC chair, but went on to continue rising through the GOP ranks.
She has more recently emerged as a potential dark horse pick to replace Attorney General Pam Bondi, who was given notice she would be fired last week after months of frustration over how she handled the Jeffrey Epstein case files and a series of unsuccessful prosecutions of Trump's political opponents.
