Psychologists dismiss proposal to join Gesy
The Cyprus Psychologists Association has rejected a health insurance organisation (HIO) proposal to include counselling in Gesy.
In a press release on Monday, the association said 89 per cent of delegates had rejected the proposal at the general assembly and authorised the board to continue consultations for a mutually acceptable integration framework.
As the reason for the rejection, the association cited a contradiction of the right of beneficiaries to have access to the most appropriately qualified professionals.
In particular, it said there was a significant overlap between counselling and clinical psychology, which the HIO attempted to differentiate.
