Lil Nas X All Smiles While Leaving Court After Judge Moves to Dismiss Felony Assault Case
Lil Nas X is avoiding jail time.
The 26-year-old Grammy-winning rapper was facing up to five years in prison on four felony charges for allegedly assaulting and resisting police officers following an incident last August.
Lil Nas X, whose real name is Montero Hill, was seen exiting the Van Nuys Court West with a smile on his face on Monday (April 6) following his latest hearing, where the judge moved to dismiss the case on a diversion.

Judge Alan Schneider noted the August arrest was “aberrant from his normal conduct,” according to Rolling Stone, and determined the incident was linked to his diagnosis of bipolar disorder.
Lil Nas X was ordered to complete a treatment plan and obey all laws over the next two years and the case will be dismissed.
“When treated, he is much better off, and society is much better off,” the judge said, adding that the rapper “appears to be doing very well.”
Lil Nas X‘s lawyer revealed last September, the month after his arrest, that he was in treatment.
“I’m thankful. Just very thankful,” Montero told Rolling Stone outside the courtroom. “It could have been much worse.”
According to his lawyer, he voluntarily checked himself into The Meadows treatment center in Arizona and received nearly two months of inpatient care that was “absolutely successful.”
Since then, he has moved on to what the lawyer says is a “pretty rigorous mental health regimen,” which includes weekly sessions with a psychotherapist and appointments with a psychiatrist every three months. She noted the August 2025 incident was “humiliating” and he is committed to ongoing care.
The judge also set a progress report hearing for July 29th, though Lil Nas X won’t have to appear in person.
