Dune 3 IMAX 70mm Tickets: Where to Find Them Before They're Gone
Warner Bros. dropped a new teaser for Denis Villeneuve's sci-fi finale Dune: Part Three to announce early IMAX 70mm ticket sales for the film's opening weekend on December 17 to 20.
The first batch covers 19 theaters across 18 cities worldwide with just one showing at 7 p.m. local time. American locations include Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Pennsylvania, New York, Tennessee, and Texas.
Tickets went on sale at 9 a.m. PST. Some screenings sold out within minutes which caused some websites to crash. It is unclear when additional tickets will be released.
Collectible Filmstrip For Early Buyers
On top of watching the film on opening weekend, Dune fans can receive a limited-edition, collectible filmstrip with each ticket purchased.
What is IMAX 70mm and How Is It Different From Standard IMAX?
For moviegoers wondering what makes these screenings so special, here’s a quick breakdown.
Christopher Nolan, who holds the record for the longest IMAX 70mm film print ever produced with "Oppenheimer" at 180 minutes, has called the format "the highest quality imaging format ever devised."
There are nearly 1,800 IMAX screens worldwide, but only 30 theaters have the ability to show films in the original 70mm IMAX format.
There is not a huge difference between standard dual digital projectors and 70mm projectors. The 70mm format offers more of the grainy, cinematic feel that many moviegoers enjoy. Despite its analog nature, 70mm projectors deliver a detailed image with 18k resolution, compared to dual laser 4k resolution. Both formats can achieve the large 1.43:1 aspect ratio.
Trailer and Cast
The ticket drop arrives just a couple of weeks after the debut of Dune: Part Three’s first trailer. The returning cast includes Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Javier Bardem, Florence Pugh, Rebecca Ferguson, Anya Taylor-Joy and Jason Momoa, with Robert Pattinson joining as a new addition.
Dune: Part Three, is set to be the last film in Villeneuve’s Dune trilogy.
Dune: Part Three will be released in theaters on December 18. Tickets can be purchased through IMAX or your local cinema’s website.
