13 Killed in Strike on Residential Building Near Tehran
At least 13 people were killed after an airstrike hit a residential building in Eslamshahr, southwest of Tehran, Iranian media reported on Monday, in the latest sign that the war is increasingly hitting civilian areas as well as strategic infrastructure. Neither Israel nor the United States had immediately claimed responsibility for the strike, according to Iranian and international media reports.
The strike was reported by Iran’s semi-official Fars news agency and Nour News, which said the building was hit in the early hours of Monday. It was not immediately clear why the structure was targeted, but the attack came during another night of heavy bombardment across several Iranian cities.
The reported deaths came as U.S. and Israeli strikes continued across Iran, with local media and international reports also pointing to attacks in Ahvaz, Karaj, Shiraz and other locations. Iranian outlets said Ahvaz International Airport in the country’s southwest was struck on Sunday, adding to a widening list of transport, energy, academic and urban sites hit in recent days.
The latest strike also highlights the growing toll of attacks on populated areas as the conflict enters a more dangerous phase. In recent days, Iranian media have reported repeated strikes on residential neighbourhoods, while Tehran has accused Washington and Tel Aviv of broadening their target list beyond military and strategic facilities. Those claims remain difficult to verify independently because of wartime restrictions and limited access on the ground.
The attack came as U.S. President Donald Trump renewed pressure on Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, warning that if Tehran failed to do so by early Wednesday Iran time, its infrastructure could face far more extensive strikes. That ultimatum has heightened fears that the conflict may move into an even more destructive phase if diplomacy fails to produce a breakthrough.
The area around Tehran has faced repeated overnight attacks in recent days as the conflict between Iran, the United States and Israel has intensified. While earlier strikes focused heavily on military, intelligence and energy-linked sites, more recent attacks have increasingly affected residential districts and civilian-linked infrastructure, raising concern over mounting non-combatant casualties.
The reported deaths in Eslamshahr add to a growing civilian toll at a time when regional mediation efforts remain uncertain and military pressure continues to rise. If attacks continue to expand into residential zones, the humanitarian and political costs of the war are likely to deepen sharply.
