Greek frigate Elli departs for Cyprus
The Greek navy frigate Elli has departed from the Salamis naval base bound for Cyprus, according to Greek Navy sources, in a move linked to ongoing regional security cooperation in the eastern Mediterranean.
The Elli, an S-type frigate, left earlier on Monday morning.
There has been no official announcement regarding whether it will replace the frigate Psara or Kimon, though information suggests the rotation is more likely to concern the Psara.
The Elli was commissioned by the Hellenic Navy in 1982, having last seen action in the Gulf war from 1990–91 and was modernised with the Sea Sparrow surface-to-air missile system in 2009.
Both the Elli and Psara are equipped with the advanced “Kentavros” system, which enhances their operational capabilities across multiple areas.
The deployment comes amid continued military coordination and heightened readiness in the eastern Mediterranean, where the presence of Greek naval vessels is seen as playing an important role in safeguarding maritime interests and strengthening regional security.
