Police intensify crackdown on fireworks ahead of Easter
Three Molotov-type inflammable devices were seized as part of police operations to prevent the use of firecrackers and the lighting of bonfires ahead of the upcoming Easter holidays on Monday night.
As part of these operations, police patrols responded to various fires and seized wood intended for lighting bonfires.
According to the police, three explosive devices were found near a church in the Limassol district. Meanwhile, wood was found in five rubbish bins and removed with the help of the Limassol municipality.
In addition the police responded to several incidents involving fires in open areas.
In the Nicosia district, officers dealt with several incidents involving firecrackers and arson. Quantities of wood intended for lighting bonfires were found and seized on two occasions.
The police said that preventive measures are continuing in all districts, with intensified patrols aimed at preventing the use of firecrackers and bonfires, as well as incidents of juvenile delinquency.
