Yianis Christodoulou Foundation to create new social wellbeing, innovation hub in Nicosia
The Yianis Christodoulou Foundation, founded by John Christodoulou, has proceeded with the acquisition of a property at a key location in Nicosia, opposite The Landmark Nicosia hotel on Limassol Avenue, with the aim of developing a further project dedicated to Cypriot society, offering long-term benefit.
This initiative reflects Christodoulou’s philanthropic vision and serves a social purpose, as it is not a profit-driven development but a long-term investment in society. The project will be designed to ensure its sustainability, with particular emphasis on the younger generation, families, education, innovation and social wellbeing.
In line with Christodoulou’s vision, the objective is to create a vibrant and sustainable hub for social activity and innovation. The development is expected to include a wide range of uses, such as co-working spaces, support structures for start-ups, makers’ spaces, educational programmes, workshops for young people and support for social entrepreneurship. At the same time, the creation of conference rooms, screening areas and sports facilities is under consideration.
Provision is also planned for family-oriented spaces, as well as a market hall café. The broader vision includes a landscaped green area on the top floor and, subject to final approvals, philanthropist Christodoulou envisages the construction of a small chapel there, adding a wider social dimension to the project (it is noted that a previous planning permit for the site allowed for 11 storeys).
With the aim of safeguarding the project’s social character and financial sustainability, part of the space will be offered under different financial models, such as provision at minimal or low cost or on market terms, depending on usage.
The Yianis Christodoulou Foundation intends to give an active role to the younger generation, inviting them to participate in an ideas competition on what they would like the project to include, for the benefit of society.
The idea to acquire the property originated from Pampos Panayiotou, a close friend of Christodoulou’s and a board member of KEO, who identified the property as a unique opportunity.
Cypriot philanthropist Christodoulou has, through the Yianis Christodoulou Foundation, supported more than 100 charitable and social initiatives to date. This new project represents a milestone in the Foundation’s 10-year contribution and strengthens its long-term commitment to delivering lasting value for Cyprus and its people.
