Why We Love This Deal
Merrell is currently running its Spring Sale, which will save you 40% off select spring styles on its rugged hiking footwear as well as hoodies and jackets, too. What Merrell isn’t advertising heavily, however, is that you can put in code EXTRA40 in the checkout menu and save an additional 40%. That makes the offerings in the sale, including these futuristic hybrid trail shoes, over 60% off.
The Merrell SpeedArc Matis is now just $65 once all discounts are applied. So, while the inspiration from On’s running shoes is clear from the perforated midsole, the affordability is much higher. Fans of this shoe may also wish to check out the Gore-Tex version and the SpeedArc Surge BOA, which are also on sale at this time.

What Shoppers Should Know
- Sizes Available: From 7 to 15
- Color Options: 6 styles are available at the sale price
- Key Features: The shoe includes a removable EVA foam footbed, a lightweight FlexPlate for stability, a FloatPro Foam two-part midsole, and a Vibram MegaGrip rubber outsole.
- Best Use Case: Merrell designed this as an all-terrain hiker that’s stylish enough for city streets, too.
Merrell’s SpeedArc series features a unique look when compared to Merrell’s typically chunky trail runners or solidly outdoor Moabs. The SpeedArc Matis is a lighter shoe, with springiness visible right from the midsole, and one that will look fashionable below both hiking pants and chinos. And while it’s fun to say this is like a techy utility pant for your foot, the style change-up does show that Merrell is willing to try something new to appeal to a wider audience without giving up on a core design philosophy that revolves around stability and outdoor performance.
Merrell explicitly labels this as a lightweight hiker for moderately difficult terrain and city streets, emphasizing both its high-grip Vibram outsole and comfortable padding. In effect, however, one can expect plenty of real users to sport this shoe in the way that a lot of the best Hokas are used: as an all-day comfort shoe that can be pushed further if need be.

What Shoppers Are Saying
Now, from the looks of the shoe, it is undoubtedly one that is intended to function on trails and asphalt alike. But what do real wearers notice in everyday usage? One shopper reported in. “The midsole delivers excellent energy return and underfoot cushioning, while still maintaining enough firmness for stability on mixed terrain.”
Another shopper, who complimented the shoes for their light weight and roll-like step, said, “I had Achilles surgery, and these have been really comfortable to wear now that I’m walking again.”
The Merrell SpeedArc Matis is down to just $65 with code EXTRA40 while the Merrell Spring Sale lasts.
