THE LOWDOWN
Darren McGregor’s side return to League Cup action on Monday to complete their group stage campaign after back-to-back league fixtures.
A first league defeat in over 14 months against Dundee United was rectified last week with a narrow victory over Motherwell.
It was far from a complete performance, but Josh McDonald’s driven strike in the first half was enough to get Hibs back on track in the CAS Elite U19 League.
We are currently joint-top in the league standings on 20 points with upcoming League Cup opponents, Rangers – who sit top having played one match more than Hibs.
In the League Cup group stage, the wee Hibees are second in the table and are assured of progression to the next round.
St Mirren, who have picked up five convincing wins from six matches, are top on 15 points – though Hibs can draw level with a win on Monday, as we sit second on 12 points at this time.
Rangers are locked in at third spot on six points, with a maximum on nine now available, while Motherwell finished the campaign pointless.
THE HOSTS
Our most recent meeting with Rangers was in the reverse League Cup fixture on Tuesday 10 February.
It was a crucial win for Hibs early on in the group stage campaign, with Dean Cleland’s brace and Reiss Downie’s singular strike securing a 3-1 triumph for the wee Hibees at HTC.
The Gers were last on the pitch against St Mirren in their penultimate League Cup group stage tie, losing out 5-1 to an impressive St Mirren.
Kyle Glasgow had opened the scoring for the Glasgow outfit, but the Buddies fought back to secure a dominant victory at Rangers Training Centre.
