Mark Vientos Continues Scorching Hot Start
Mark Vientos has been on a tear since the season got underway, but especially the last two nights against the San Francisco Giants. After struggling in spring training, he has been sensational.
On Friday, Vientos was 2-for-3, with two walks (reaching four times), with an RBI and one run scored. He followed that on Saturday by getting three more hits, for a 3-for-5 performance, driving in one, and scoring twice. He hit a double in the second, scoring later in the inning on an error by Matt Chapman. He has six hits total in the current series against San Francisco.
So far on the season Vientos is hitting .417/.526/.765, with a 1.291 OPS. He has accumulated two doubles, one home run, walked twice, and driven in three runs, with four runs scored.

Vientos spoke to the media and said the game planning is helping him be successful. “We’re talking about our plan at the plate, just executing it, and letting the results happen,” said Vientos. He noted that right now he feels good, he’s seeing the ball well, and feels natural up there. “I feel myself,” he said with a smile.
Vientos has also won two challenged calls this series, picking up where the ball is placed very well right now, which is something even manager Carlos Mendoza commented on Friday.
“It’s good to see it (this kind of a start), especially after spring training,” said Mendoz. “We kept telling him in spring, keep hitting the ball hard, keep controlling the strike zone,” said Mendoza. “As a human, as a competitor, they (the players) want to see results, and it’s good to see him having the start he’s having right now. He’s a pretty important player for us,” noted Mendoza. “If we can get some confidence early on, he’s going to be an important player for us.”
Vientos has also excelled defensively at first base thus far. Clay Holmes spoke about that specifically following Saturday’s victory.
“He’s made some incredible plays: plays he’s had to dive for, some plays that are in-betweeners, he’s been really good,” said Holmes. “He’s been putting in the work, we all see it as players, how bad he wants it,” said Holmes. “To see him getting results has been awesome to see as a teammate and for us as a team,” he said.
Vientos regaining his 2024 form would be massive for a Mets team that has World Series aspirations this season. He’s out to a great start, to say the least.
