President has ‘creative approach’ to meeting with Erhurman
President Nikos Christodoulides will attend Monday’s meeting with Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhurma, with the necessary political will and a creative approach, with the aim of resuming direct negotiations within the agreed framework, deputy government spokesman Yiannis Antoniou said on Sunday.
“If the other side moves with the same approach, then well-founded expectations are created for the next step,” Antoniou added.
“The commitment of the secretary general of the United Nations, as expressed in the recent meeting with the President, encourages us to intensify efforts even more and to use every negotiating opportunity to end the unacceptable status quo,” he said.
The two leaders will meet at the residence of UN special representative in Cyprus Khassim Diagne on Monday afternoon.
