Regional Final Up Next for Gymbacks

The No. 9 Gymbacks will compete in their third straight regional final on Sunday with a berth to the NCAA Gymnastics Championships on the line.

Arkansas will face off against No. 1 Oklahoma, No. 8 Missouri and Ohio State in the Lexington regional final, with the top two teams advancing to the national championship April 16-18 in Fort Worth, Texas. Missouri punched its ticket to the final after the Tigers placed second to the Gymbacks in the afternoon semifinal on Friday, while OU and Ohio State emerged as the top two from the evening semi. Oklahoma had the top score among all eight teams on the day with a 197.875, Arkansas tallied 197.175, Missouri posted 196.875 and Ohio State pulled off an upset of host No. 16 Kentucky with a mark of 196.550.

The Sooners are ranked No. 1 on every event and all-around in the four-team field, but Missouri and Arkansas are closely matched for the No. 2 spots. The Tigers hold the advantage on bars (49.308 NQS) and floor (49.433), but the Gymbacks are better on vault (49.300) and beam (49.320).

Oklahoma and Missouri are familiar foes as fellow SEC members. Arkansas had been 0-5 combined against both teams heading into Friday’s regional semifinals but managed to pull off the win over Mizzou. The Gymbacks are 4-2 all-time over Ohio State, with the two teams last meeting in the 2025 season.

Arkansas will again start the day on floor, and then rotate in order: vault, bars, and finishing on beam. Sunday will mark the team’s third straight regional final and the fifth in head coach Jordyn Wieber’s seven seasons at the helm. Should the Gymbacks advance to the national championship, it would be the 10th-ever team appearance and second under Wieber.

Sunday’s meet is set for 4 p.m. CT in Lexington, Ky. Action will be streamed live on ESPN+ with live scoring provided by Virtius.
