Valero Texas Open Weather Delay: New Start Time After Inclement Weather
Third round tee times of the Valero Texas Open were moved earlier into Saturday morning amid the threat of looming weather.
On Saturday morning the PGA Tour's communications department issued a weather forecast for the day, showing plenty of rain in store.
"A cold front will reach San Antonio by this afternoon with showers and a few embedded thunderstorms possible," a message from the PGA Tour's communications department read. "Impacts to the course will most likely occur between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. CT. Behind the front, temperatures will fall into the 60's with a stiff north breeze. Gusts near 40 mph are possible along the immediate frontal passage with gusts of 30-35 mph remaining possible the remainder of the day."
PGA Tour Announces Weather Delay
The initial forecast was right on target as the players were called off the course just before 1 p.m. ET.
"The third round of the Valero Texas Open suspended due to inclement weather at 11:51 a.m. local time," the PGA Tour announced. Golfers were called off the course before the inclement weather hit to allow time for them to get to safety ahead of potential lightning in the area.
The PGA Tour has not officially announced a new start time as of yet. However, the Weather Channel's radar shows the severe storms and heavy rain departing the area just after 3 p.m. ET.
Robert MacIntyre Holds Lead Amid Weather Delay
Robert MacIntyre entered the third round with a four shot lead over Ludvig Aberg, who closed the gap before the weather delay on Saturday afternoon. Through the first five holes of the day for both golfers Aberg made up two shots on MacIntyre with birdies on three of the first five holes.
This is the final tournament on the PGA Tour's schedule before the Masters tees off from Augusta National next week on April 9.
