Young Stymies Spruce Kings in Game 1
Eric Young made 36 saves as the Langley Rivermen took Game 1 of the Rogers BCHL Playoffs series against the Prince George Spruce Kings by a score of 2-0 on Friday night at Kopar Memorial Arena.
It was a scoreless first period, but Makaio Van Tassel got the Rivermen on the board at 2:52 of the second when he put a rebound just over the line past Ryder Green. Van Tassel was the recepient of a quick poke check by Jordan Geike, who stripped Evan Bellamy of the puck, and Andreas Mikrogiannakis had his shot stopped before the rebound lit the lamp.
Nine and a half minutes later, Sam Giangualano tapped the puck to Cale Colwell who made an inside out move in the right circle to snap the puck upstairs past Green to make it 2-0.
The Spruce Kings would get a 5 on 3 advantage late in the third period and pulled Green for the extra attacker. Young made his best save of the night when he stretched across to rob Marcus Lougheed with the glove hand. The Spruce Kings finished the night 0 for 5 on the power play while the Rivermen were 0 for 1.
