Phillies feel at home at Coors Field in lopsided win against Rockies
All the Phillies needed was a trip to Coors Field.
The Phillies scored seven runs against Rockies starter Michael Lorenzen in the first inning of a 10-1 win over Colorado on Friday afternoon. Philadelphia sent 11 men to the plate in the opening frame.
Leadoff man Trea Turner recorded two hits in that inning, raising his batting average on the season from .192 entering today’s game to .250 after the first inning.
Brandon Marsh crushed his first home run of the season, a three-run blast to right field that traveled 454 feet. Bryson Stott and Alec Bohm each scored on Marsh’s home run and drove in at least one run in the seven-run onslaught.
Marsh’s first inning home run was the longest of his career and the longest in MLB this season until Kyle Schwarber drove a first-pitch sweeper 460 feet into right field for his third home run of the season in the top of the fifth. He is tied with six other players for the National League lead in home runs in the early going. Bryce Harper hit his second home run in as many games in the second.
Lorenzen’s former Team Italy and Phillies teammate fared much better. Working with a comfortable lead for most of the game, Aaron Nola pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing only one earned run on five hits with nine strikeouts. He is 1-0 on the season with a 3.18 ERA. Relievers Kyle Backhus, Tim Mayza and Zach Pop all kept the Rockies off the scoreboard in their respective outings.
The Phillies (4-3) will look for their ninth straight win against the Rockies (2-5) dating back to the 2025 season on Saturday. Jesús Luzardo is scheduled to make his second start of the season.
