Transfer race: Man Utd join PL giants in blockbuster chase for 13 G/A star
Manchester United have been given hope of signing Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers.
According to The Sun, Rogers would be open to leaving Aston Villa for one of the big Premier League clubs this summer.
Man United are unlikely to have a clear path, with fierce competition expected from Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal.
Despite signing a six-year contract last November, the 23-year-old reportedly feels the upcoming window could be the ideal moment to take the next step in his career.
The Midlands outfit may demand a fee higher than £80 million, potentially even eclipsing their record-breaking £100m sale of Jack Grealish to Manchester City in 2021.
The England international has netted eight goals and provided five assists in 31 league games this season.
Rogers would be a smart acquisition
The former Manchester City academy graduate is one of the brightest talents in England.
He is also expected to be an important part of Thomas Tuchel’s squad for the upcoming World Cup.
If he shines on the global stage, Villa could justifiably push his valuation closer to the £100 million mark.
At present, Bruno Fernandes remains the undisputed choice in the number 10 role at Old Trafford. While Rogers is capable of operating from the left flank, he is at his most influential when deployed centrally
In the short term, he could provide high-quality rotation for Fernandes before gradually evolving into a long-term successor within one or two seasons.
However, INEOS are prioritising midfield reinforcements, with a significant portion of the summer budget expected to be allocated to that area.
For now, it seems highly unlikely that United will consider meeting Villa’s steep asking price.
