Man Utd now want "quick" £100m transfer for 23yo star, 8 recoveries/game this season
Manchester United want to secure a ‘quick’ agreement with Nottingham Forest for midfielder Elliot Anderson before the summer World Cup, according to The Sun.
The Red Devils are poised to reinforce the defensive midfield department with Casemiro set to depart on a free transfer. The Brazilian will leave when his contract expires on June 30.
Anderson is one of the top names on their transfer wishlist. Manchester City are leading the race to sign him, but United remain optimistic of landing his signature ahead of their rivals.
Amidst this, The Sun claim that both United and City are expected to move quickly for the England international as his price could soar higher if he impresses at the World Cup.
Anderson is reportedly valued at around £100 million. The transfer window will reopen on June 15, but United are planning to advance talks for the player in the days leading up to it.
Anderson would be a top-class signing
The 23-year-old has been a revelation for Forest since his switch from Newcastle United for £35 million. He had a good debut season and has fared much better in the current campaign.
Despite Forest languishing around the drop zone, Anderson has had a good individual season. He has won a stunning eight duels and three tackles per game alongside eight recoveries.
Anderson has also completed 55 passes per league appearance. Alongside this, he has excelled with his tremendous work rate and high pressing. He would be a perfect Casemiro replacement.
Casemiro has been caught out of position with his reduced mobility at 34. He has still been in fantastic form this year, but United have decided to pursue a suitable successor this summer.
Anderson would be a fabulous addition for a club-record package, but they have work to do to convince the player to join them ahead of Pep Guardiola’s side during the transfer window.
Champions League qualification could be a huge incentive in convincing Anderson. United could also guarantee him a starting spot with a more lucrative salary than the Cityzens.
Anderson may have to play second fiddle to Rodri at Man City next term. At United, he could make the number six position his own ahead of Manuel Ugarte after Casemiro departs.
