Club Face ‘Very Specific Deadline’ In Deal With Aston Villa Which Could ‘Definitely Represent A Problem’

Roma fully intend to sign Donyell Malen on a permanent basis from Aston Villa, but need to trigger the option to buy by 30th June, which could pose a problem for the Giallorossi.
The Villa Park club signed the Dutch attacker from Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund last year, and he did make an impact at Villa Park.
Unai Emery, though, mainly used Malen as an off-the-bench substitute, playing him as an attacking winger down the left flank.
The 27-year-old wanted to play as a number 9, which prompted him to move to Serie A giants Roma in the winter transfer window.
Malen made a loan move to the Rome-based outfit, who have an obligation to buy him in the event that they qualify for European competition; Villa have already received €2m loan fee.
The Netherlands forward has been on fire since his switch to the Italian giants, where he has scored eight goals and made an assist in only 12 games.
One former Italy star is impressed with his immediate impact at Roma, dubbing Malen a ‘deadly’ forward.
The Giallorossi are over the moon with the Dutchman’s performances in Italy, and it was suggested that Roma would use the recently concluded international break to finalise his permanent transfer.
Even though it has been claimed that the 27-year-old’s switch to Roma is basically a done deal, it is yet to be completed.
According to Italian outlet Il Romanista, the Giallorossi must sign the Aston Villa loanee by the 30th June, due to a ‘very specific deadline’ in the agreement.
Aston Villa ‘expect the substantial transfer’ to occur by that date, but Roma need to balance financial fair play rules.
It is suggested that the €25m fee payment ‘could definitely represent a problem’, which Roma will need to solve.
Aston Villa have also had financial fair play worries in meeting the Premier League’s rules and will want the Malen move to go through without any issues.
The 27-year-old will also want the move to go through, as he recently admitted that the pace of Italian football suits him better than the Premier League.
Aston Villa could have cause to regret letting Malen go cheaply if he continues to shine brightly for Roma.
