Limassol container terminal operator Eurogate leads large-scale rescue drill
Limassol container terminal operator Eurogate CTL on Friday announced that a large-scale rescue exercise was successfully carried out at the company’s facilities at Limassol port.
The exercise involved Eurogate employees, members of the Emak disaster response unit, and the Fire Service.
According to the firm, the drill simulated the rescue of an injured person from a height of 70 metres on a gantry crane, testing emergency response capabilities in a high-risk environment.
The rescue operation involved the use of specialised rescue equipment in combination with a 60-metre telescopic platform, operated by trained personnel from the Limassol district fire brigade.
Such scenarios, the company said, are considered highly dangerous, requiring specialised rescue techniques and precise coordination among all teams involved.
The operation was particularly demanding due to the extreme height and the limited access points available at the site, it added.
During the exercise, the emergency protocol was fully activated and all necessary safety measures were implemented across the terminal.
Following the drill, Eurogate CTL safety officer Socrates Christodoulou expressed full satisfaction with the outcome.
“Ensuring the health and safety of our employees is our highest priority, which is why as a company we take all necessary and essential measures,” he said.
Moreover, Eurogate CTL operations director Alexandros Demetriades highlighted the importance of cooperation between all parties involved.
“The successful outcome of this difficult and high-risk operation is the result of joint effort and coordination between Eurogate CTL, Emak and the Fire Service,” he stated.
“The final result will be evaluated, with the aim of continuous improvement and full preparedness of all in case of danger,” he added.
“We would also like to express our sincere thanks to Emak, the members of the Fire Service and everyone who contributed to this effort,” he said.
On his part, Emak commander Charalambos Charalambous thanked Eurogate CTL for its cooperation and stressed the importance of joint preparedness.
“Our joint action ensures that, in the event of a real incident, our response will be immediate, effective and above all safe for everyone,” he said.
“The policy of the Fire Service is to invest in modern equipment, continuous training and joint exercises, which form the foundation for the safety of citizens and workers in the country’s strategic infrastructure,” he added.
“This activity confirmed the high level of training of the unit’s members and their ability to respond to complex industrial environments,” Charalambous concluded.
