Spurs are just a point above the relegation zone, and will be hoping De Zerbi can turn things around after replacing the hapless Igor Tudor as manager.
According to Alasdair Gold, one key step for De Zerbi will be bringing Bentancur back into the fold after his troubles with injuries.
The Uruguay international is now expected to be fit and available again, and that could give him the chance to come in and help this Tottenham team turn things around.
“I’ve got a funny feeling that he’s gonna like Rodrigo Bentancur as well,” Gold said on his YouTube channel.
“And I know again he’s a player that’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but I think in terms of tactical and possession based football, yes he can be a little bit iffy with his passing sometimes, but actually, as someone that was used to being in the hub of that Juventus team, the three-time Serie A title winners, I think he could fit in quite well.”
Tottenham’s relegation run-in fixtures
Tottenham are in awful form at the moment, with the north Londoners failing to win a single Premier League game under Tudor, picking up just one point in a draw away to Liverpool.
De Zerbi’s arrival should boost the team, but they still have some tricky-looking fixtures coming up…
12th April – Sunderland (A)
18th April – Brighton (H)
25th April – Wolves (A)
2nd May – Aston Villa (A)
11th May – Leeds (H)
17th May – Chelsea (A)
24th May – Everton (H)
De Zerbi has a tough job on his hands, and he’ll need his experienced players to step up for him, with Bentancur undoubtedly one of those.
