Subaru's New EV Is A Three-Row SUV With Over 300 Miles Of Range
Subaru's fourth electric vehicle is a big, three-row SUV the brand calls the Getaway. In fairness, you'd be able to make quite the exit with the SUV's 420 horsepower. The new EV also boasts more than 300 miles of range and, as is Subaru tradition, standard all-wheel drive.
The brand unveiled the new Getaway at the New York International Auto Show this week, saying the EV will hit 60 miles per hour in less than five seconds. It'll also tow up to 3,500 pounds. The brand's characteristic off-road bent is present here: the automaker made sure to highlight the SUV's available 8.3 inches of ground clearance.

Peer at the Getaway closely, and you'll begin to notice some similarities with Toyota's Highlander EV. The two automakers have partnered on three previous EVs, with the Getaway/Highlander marking the fourth in their collaboration. As such, many of the specs are similar to the fresh new Highlander, but with a little more "Subaru" infused throughout. This is especially true of the exterior, which features unique lighting, bumpers, and badges.
Inside, things are a bit more similar. The dash, wheel, and much of the center console are identical to those of the new Highlander EV. Subaru shares an infotainment system with Toyota in its collaborations, and this is no different, a very similar 12.3-inch and 14-inch pair of screens. There's also wireless charging and phone projection. Other standard equipment includes heated front seats, though additional heated and ventilated seats will be offered.

No matter what's inside, the Getaway will be powered by an electric motor at each axle. The brand says a long-range model will be the first to go on sale, offering a 95.8-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery with 150-kilowatt charging. At those speeds, it should mean the EV is capable of recharging from 10 to 80 percent in 30 minutes via its standard NACS-style charging port. Later, a lower-range model with a 77.0-kWh battery will go on sale in the first half of next year.
