Liveblog replay: Caufield scores 48th, 49th, Canadiens beat Rangers 3-2
The Canadiens (43-21-10) can extend their winning streak to seven games with a win over the New York Rangers (31-35-9) on Thursday night at Madison Square Garden.

First Period: Scoreless
Habs outshot the Rangers 8-7, but Jacob Fowler and Igor Shesterkin turned aside every puck that came their way, including Mike Matheson nearly scoring on his own goalie.
Second Period: Caufield keeps scoring
Alex Newhook opened scoring at 4:36 of the second period with a quick one-timer. Ivan Demidov with the no-look pass. 1-0 Canadiens
Less than two minutes later, Cole Caufield put himself two goals away from 50, thanks to some highlight reel passing from Nick Suzuki and Juraj Slafkovsky. Caufield has 27 goals in 27 games. 2-0 Canadiens
Third Period: No shutout for Fowler
The Rangers finally solved Jacob Fowler in the third. Defenceman Adam Fox jumped on a loose puck while the Habs were scrambling to locate the puck. 2-1 Canadiens
The Rangers tied it up with less than six minutes to play in regulation. Will Cuylle was credited with the goal, Coach Martin St. Louis called a timeout but ultimately did not challenge that Fowler was interfered with. Tied 2-2
Less than one minute later, Caufield scored his 49th of the season to reinstate Montreal’s lead. 3-2 Canadiens
