The 76-year-old actress and the 76-year-old former Vogue editor-in-chief, who inspired Meryl‘s character in The Devil Wears Prada are distantly biologically related, according to Ancestry.com.

The genealogy platform has revealed that Meryl and Anna are actually sixth cousins, and are linked by their shared fifth great-grandparents, Thomas Smith and Elizabeth Kinsey.
“Well THAT explains EVERYTHING,” Meryl told EW in a written statement. “As our ancestors would say, I am chuffed!”

Ancestry also revealed that their shared fifth great-grandparents, Thomas Smith and Elizabeth Kinsey, lived in Bucks County, Penn., which is just 20 miles from Allentown, aka the hometown of “The Devil Wears Prada” author Lauren Weisberger, who is also a former assistant to Anna Wintour.
