Beloved Brewery Back After Abruptly Closing All 22 Locations in 2025
It's a sad day when a brewery shutters its doors, but even more sorrowful when said brewery is forced to close all 22 of its locations abruptly following bankruptcy.
That's what happened to Iron Hill Brewery, which closed all of its locations and forced more than 800 people into unemployment. Less than a year later, though, Iron Hill is making a comeback, with a different mindset.
Iron Hill Reopening 5 Locations After Abrupt Closures
Mark Edelson, an original founder and now a board advisor, revealed to ABC 6 Action News that Iron Hill is bringing back five locations. Edelson, part of the ownership group behind the revival, revealed the new mindset behind the paired down version of Iron Hill.
"We can be more focused in a smaller number of restaurants and really pay attention to the things that made us great: the food, the beer and the service," he explained. "There are so many people excited to come back because of their love of the brand."
Iron Hill initially filed Chapter 7 bankruptcy in September 2025 and abruptly closed all of its locations in a move that Edelson said followed years of rapid expansion that became difficult to manage.
The locations reopening are in Wilmington, Delaware; Huntingdon Valley; Hershey; Lancaster; and at the company's home base on East Market Street in Center City Philadelphia.
Iron Hill Took Home Prestigious Honor From Men's Journal
Iron Hill's Russian Imperial Stout made the list of Men's Journal's 101 best beers in the country back in 2020.
"We’re usually leery of the beer coming out of brewpub chains, which typically range from the merely uninspired to the downright boring," Men's Journal wrote at the time. "We’re happy to report that Iron Hill Brewery and Restaurant, which operates 11 brewpubs across Delaware (the home state), Pennsylvania, and New Jersey, is an exception to the rule. Head straight for the rich, roasty imperial stout that has been raking in awards at the Great American Beer Festival and World Beer cup since 2003."
