CNN's Abby Phillip trips up GOP insider Scott Jennings with his own Iran words
CNN's Abby Phillip clashed with MAGA loyalist Scott Jennings in the aftermath of President Donald Trump's address on the Iran war — and backed him into a corner using his own words.
Jennings has increasingly exasperated his CNN colleagues with his more and more insistent partisan defenses of the Trump administration, and the aftermath of Trump's Iran address was no exception.
He kicked off by arguing that Trump's decision to invade Iran didn't necessarily make it an American war — but also that America had every right to be angry that European allies aren't allowing the war to be staged in their front yards, with Spain and Italy refusing to allow staging for the war on their own bases.
"You have supposed friends of the US saying you can't use these bases," said Jennings.
"Are they not right to wonder why weren't they consulted before Trump decided to wage a war?" said Phillip. "It sounds like you think it's in their defense."
"It is in defense of all of Europe," said Jennings.
"Shouldn’t they have been consulted?" Phillip shot back.
"Consulted? We decided it was in our national security interest," said Jennings.
"So, that makes it our war," said Phillip.
