Hibernian Women secured all three points on a bitterly cold evening at Petershill Park by narrowly defeating Glasgow City.

Eilidh Adams’ stunning second-half strike settled the fiery encounter in Springburn; with a late Noa Schumacher stop crucial to our victory.

The hosts were fresh off the back of their Sky Sports Cup Final triumph at the weekend, but failed to break down the resilient Hibs backline throughout the 90.

Head Coach Joelle Murray made one change to her Hibernian Women starting XI for the clash, with Adams returning from illness in place of Hannah Jordan. 

We started with intent; spending the first three minutes in and around the City penalty area, pushing and prodding for an opening that did not unfold.

It would be City winger Sofia Maatta who took on the first shot of the evening as she stole possession from Stacey Papadopoulos at the halfway line before rushing forward and fizzing a powerful shot wide.

On 12 minutes City would threaten once more after Chloe Warrington and Lisa Forrest combined to feed Natalia Wrobel the ball just outside the box, though the attacker’s forceful strike blew past the post.

Adams completed the first on-target attempt after 15 minutes played when picked out from Tegan Bowie, but her stabbed effort from 20 yards arrowed into the arms of City keeper Lee Gibson.

Another good attack followed a minute later, as Rosie Livingstone breezed past a handful of City defenders before firing low into Gibson’s grasp.

With 25 minutes on the clock, Wrobel forced Schumacher into her first stop of the night — firing low towards the bottom corner after wriggling through the Hibs defence. 

Schumacher and Gibson were both called upon to sweep up careless back passes by the 35-minute mark as each team’s high presses caused problems for one another’s defenders.

Chances were few and far between until the 51st minute, when Adams opened the scoring with a terrific finish from 20 yards out.

The striker won the ball back with a smart tackle just inside the City half before charging forward on her own and floating a sweetly struck effort directly into the top corner. 

It was then nearly two for Hibs when Kathleen McGovern glanced a header wide from a Ciara Grant corner-kick on 64 minutes.

Just two minutes later we went even closer to doubling our advantage, as another Grant delivery found Scarlett Herron at the back post - though the centre-back’s minimal touch whizzed just inches wide.

The host’s came close to equalising through Emily Gray as a fortunate bounce sent her in on goal, but the substitute’s toe-poked effort rolled a few yards wide.

A quiet spell followed as neither side looked likely to score — until Mebae Tanaka showed her threat in the final minutes.

The unmarked substitute was played in at the back post and fired a low shot across the face of goal, only for Schumacher to pull off a tremendous save to thwart her attempt and secure all three points for the Hibees!
