Wendy's Is Upgrading Its Iconic Spicy Chicken Sandwich. Here's What's New
Wendy’s is one of the most popular fast food restaurants in the country.,The menu features favorites like their signature "fresh, never frozen" beef patties, "Hot & Crispy" fries, and rich Frosty's.
Since its 1995 debut, the Wendy’s Spicy Chicken sandwich has consistently ranked among the chain's most popular menu items. Now, this beloved sandwich is receiving an update, from the top bun all the way down to the final bite.
What Are the New Changes to the Spicy Chicken Sandwich?
The updated sandwich now features premium panko-style breading and a richer mayo, enhanced with a new marinade. It is served on a soft potato bun.
According to Wendy's U.S. Chief Marketing Officer, Lindsay Radkoski, the company aims to redefine the chicken sandwich experience for its customers.
"The Wendy's Spicy Chicken Sandwich is iconic, and we saw an opportunity to make the best spicy chicken sandwich in the category even better," Radkoski said in an official statement. "After more than a year of testing and listening to consumer feedback, one thing was clear: guests wanted everything they already love, just elevated. This refresh honors the sandwich's legacy while delivering the bold, modern flavor our fans crave."
The new Classic Chicken sandwich, for those who prefer a milder flavor, includes the same updated ingredients as the Spicy Chicken sandwich. Both the spicy and classic versions are also served with pickles.
The company says it used “samples, extensive consumer focus groups, and meticulous in-restaurant testing” to develop the upgraded sandwich.
Additional menu items that will now have a soft potato bun include the Dave's Single, Dave's Double, Dave's Triple, Baconator, Son of Baconator, Big Bacon Classic, Asiago Ranch Chicken Club, Spicy Asiago Ranch Chicken Club, and the Crispy Panko Fish Sandwich.
