The original film’s director Zach Cregger will partner with writer-producer Zach Shields to write the screenplay for the project, according to a new report from Deadline.
Zach Shields just recently worked on Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, Godzilla vs. Kong, Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Krampus. He also co-executive produced Lady in the Lake, and was a consulting producer on Monarch: Legacy of Monsters for Apple.
We don’t have any casting details just yet for the film, nor a scheduled release date.
Amy Madigan plays Aunt Gladys in the film, which won her an Academy Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role, as well as an Actor Award.
“It is real and I’ve been talking to Warner Bros. about it. There’s a story and I’m pretty excited about it. It’s not bulls–t,” the director teased last September of the prequel.
“I was ready…I had it kind of in my pocket before the movie came out,” he added.
If you missed it, Amy Madigan did the iconic Weapons run while accepting her award at the Oscars.
