Pre-season twist: Man United ditch USA tour for unique European plan
Manchester United have reportedly finalised an intriguing pre-season plan ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.
According to The Athletic, Man United will play pre-season friendlies in Finland, Sweden, Norway, the Republic of Ireland and Poland this July and August.
Below is the full schedule for their summer preparations:
Man United vs Wrexham – 18 July – Helsinki
Man United vs Rosenborg – 24 July – Trondheim
Man United vs Atletico Madrid – 1 August – Stockholm
Man United vs PSG – 8 August – Gothenburg
Man United vs Leeds – 12 August – Dublin
Man United vs AC Milan – 15 August – Wroclaw
It marks a fascinating shift in strategy, with United opting to keep their preparations closer to home.
In contrast, the Manchester giants have spent the last three summers touring the United States.
They have decided against that script with the upcoming World Cup in June and July.
With the global tournament set to be hosted in the United States, United have deliberately avoided long-haul travel.
The club also explored the possibility of a tour in Asia, but ultimately decided against the idea.
The World Cup final is scheduled for July 19, a day after United’s first pre-season game.
This timing could allow several key players, not involved in the tournament, to feature early in the schedule.
Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko and Patrick Dorgu are on that list.
With the 2026-27 Premier League season set to begin on August 22, United will be determined to fine-tune every detail.
The focus will be on building momentum and peak fitness ahead of what promises to be a demanding new campaign.
